Summer Time Marketing
Summer is in full swing and at this time of year a lot of people fall into the trap of putting
things off to the fall. Weather it’s implementing your next marketing effort or contacting
potential customers, many of us fall into that trap of putting things off until September.
If you find that business is slower in July and August there might be several reasons for this.
- Perhaps you “expect” it to be slower. You think to yourself “well it was slow last year so it
will be slow again this year”.
- When you plan your vacation, perhaps there is a slow-down effect in the week prior. Efforts
are focused on wrapping up things before your trip … and the future (when you return) seems to
far away. Remember to book appointments for your return before you leave town.
- Our habits change in the summer … maybe you like to spend time on the golf course or on the boat.
Whatever your summer activity is that you like, it is certainly less attractive than prospecting
for new business.
You found a recipe for keeping your file of business prospects full in the past. Remember what has worked before, and keep doing it!
Yellow Pages Advertising:
This is the time of year that we sign up for our yellow pages ads for the next year. When you look through the yellow pages to see what your competitors are doing, remember that the key is NOT to make a BIGGER ad. A successful ad has a unique message … something that your prospects can relate to.
Don’t list the same services that everyone else in your industry lists (superior service, bonded, reliable etc.) Instead, know what matters to your customer, and tell them that you specialize in it!
On a final note about yellow pages, when someone is looking to buy a service, yellow pages is usually the first place they will go to find some potential business. (1) Make sure you are listed. (2) List your web site. Bring people to a place where they can find out more about your company and take them from the yellow pages book where they see all the OTHER companies in your industry!
