Our mail server also has an anti-virus application which scans incoming email. But yet this was not enough. In the week leading up to Christmas we noticed a "problem". Yikes! How can a person work in this day and age when their computer is acting up like a problem two-year-old? We instantly suspected that we had been affected by a virus, so we reacted with a full in-depth scan. But our popular anti-virus program detected nothing. We were somewhat reluctant to believe that there was no virus … so we got some useful information from a technician friend who suggested that we install the free AVG anti-virus. Voila! Not one but several viruses had infected this computer. It took some time but the viruses were eventually cleaned and we moved on to check for spyware. If you haven't done this yet, I highly recommend downloading a copy of the following free utilities: Spyblaster, Spybot and Ad-Aware. If you spend any time at all on the internet then you have likely been invaded by data-mining, aggressive advertising, Parasites, Scumware, selected Keyloggers, selected traditional Trojans, Dialers, Malware, Browser hijackers, and tracking components. The good news is that these handy little tools do an awesome job at locating them on your PC and will allow you to safely remove them. Ad-Aware recently released a new version of their program called Ad-Aware SE. It goes even deeper than before. It's shocking how many of these quiet little programs are running in the background slowing down your PC … and affecting your productivity. I'm glad to say that my story has a happy ending. The computers are fixed, virus-free and spyware-free. So if you don't have them yet … may I recommend… AVG Anti-virus, spyblaster, spybot and Ad-aware SE.
